Frequently Asked Questions

Here at YOURTours, we’ve created a collection of Small Group Hosted Tours across our beautiful New Zealand, as well as a range of wonderful international journeys. We’ve listened carefully to our guests – the places you dream of visiting and the ways you like to travel – and used your ideas to shape itineraries with something for everyone. Our programme continues to grow, with new tours being developed all the time.

We know that when you’re considering a tour, there are some key details you want to feel clear about – what’s included, how to book, and the type of accommodation you’ll be staying in.

You’ll find those answers here, along with plenty more information to help you decide. And if there’s something you can’t see or you’d simply like to talk it through, just let us know. We’re always happy to answer your questions and help you choose the journey that’s right for you.

Travel Style

The YOURTours team has crafted a mix of tours ranging from shorter local escapes, like our 4‑day Forgotten World / Bridge to Nowhere journey, through to longer 28‑day European touring holidays – and everything in between.

All of our small group tours are designed with the active over‑50s traveller in mind. On our coach days, we build in regular comfort stops at interesting points along the way, giving time for photos, short walks, and coffee breaks rather than long stretches on the road.

Most touring days begin around 9:00am and finish at approximately 4:30pm, with a well‑paced itinerary that avoids rushing and still allows for the occasional sleep‑in. It’s relaxed, enjoyable travel with plenty of time to truly experience each place.

Our groups are warm, friendly, and social – so travelling with YOURTours often feels just like exploring with a group of good friends or extended family.

How many people will be in my group?

You can expect a maximum of 16 travellers on tour, plus your tour host.

We keep our groups deliberately small so you have the freedom to move around comfortably and enjoy a more intimate experience. With fewer people, the whole group can share special moments together – with each other, with the locals we meet, and with the environments we visit.

Smaller groups also give us more flexibility to include charming, locally run restaurants and venues that larger groups might not be able to access, as well as saying “yes” to special opportunities that present themselves along the way.

This size of group means you genuinely get to know your fellow travellers, build connections over shared experiences, and often leave with new friendships – sometimes even lifelong ones.

Who are our tours designed for?

Our hosted small group tours are created by us, with you in mind. We carefully choose the best locations to visit on each journey and weave in special, harder‑to‑find experiences for you to enjoy along the way – the kinds of moments that add something extra to your holiday.

Our tours appeal to a broad range of ages, however most of our guests are typically 50 plus, and we keep this in mind when designing each itinerary. We aim for a comfortable pace, with enough time to truly enjoy each destination without feeling rushed.

For safety and enjoyment, we do ask that all guests are able to walk at least 1 kilometre unaided, as some walking is required when exploring the wonderful places on our itineraries. That said, some of our tours are less demanding than others.

If you’re keen to tour with us but have concerns about mobility, please call us. We’re happy to talk through your needs and suggest the tours that may be most suitable, so you can travel with confidence and enjoy your journey.

Where do we stay?

Where you stay is a big part of how your holiday feels – and it’s often the most stressful part to organise. With YOURTours, we take care of all of that for you.

For every tour, we personally hand‑pick the accommodation, choosing places we know well and are happy to stay in ourselves. Our international hotels are quality properties, and wherever possible we select locations that are an easy stroll from the town centre, so you can step out and explore without needing long transfers.

On our New Zealand tours, we stay in 4-5* hotels, however some regions only offer motel‑style accommodation. In those cases, we simply choose the best available option in the area – focusing on comfort, cleanliness, and convenient access to local attractions – so you can rest easy knowing your stay has been thoughtfully selected.

What about solo travellers?

Some people choose to travel alone, and others may not have friends or family who share the same interests and wish to branch out and find a group of likeminded travellers.  YOURTours fits the bill perfectly, our small group hosted tours are designed for travellers over 50, friends, couples and solo’s alike. Our included dining and activities bring everyone together, creating lifelong memories and certainly new friendships, which extend well beyond your tour.

Solo travellers have the option of taking their own room for a supplement or opt for a room-share where available. We are happy to introduce same-sex guests open to sharing rooms, allowing you to decide if it is for you. We are very happy to assist where we can, so do not be afraid to ask.

How do we travel around?

We travel in a late‑model, air‑conditioned touring coach, so your journey is comfortable from the moment you step onboard.

With a maximum of 16 guests and a coach that seats around 28–36 people, there’s always plenty of personal space for you and your fellow travellers. You’re not packed in – you can spread out, relax, and enjoy the scenery.

We also operate a seat rotation policy, so everyone has the chance to experience different views and perspectives throughout the tour, rather than the same seat every day.

Flexibility

Our tours are designed to give everyone the best experience possible.

While we do need to keep to the planned schedule in each itinerary, we understand that you may want to personalise parts of your journey. If we’re travelling through a town where you have family or friends, or if you’d like to extend your stay at the beginning or end of the tour, just let us know.

In many cases, we can tailor arrangements around the core itinerary – such as additional nights, stopovers, or minor adjustments – to help your holiday fit your personal plans as well as the group schedule.

Who will be my host?

YOURTours Hosts are all well‑travelled industry professionals, handpicked for their skills, professionalism, and, importantly, their personality.

Their duty of care to our guests is a top priority. That’s why we choose to travel with our own YOURTours hosts – people we know well, trust completely, and are confident will look after you beautifully throughout your journey.

We are very proud of our passionate team of YOURTours Hosts. They are your first point of contact 24/7 while on tour, and they’re also wonderful travel companions – bringing warmth, reassurance, and a friendly face to every day on the road.

Travel Insurance

Travel Insurance is compulsory for our International departures and highly recommended for our Domestic departures.  We strongly recommend you purchase travel insurance as soon as your tour is booked and to ensure you are covered for cancellation fees, interruption costs and any other kind of unforeseen circumstance.  Just speak to a YOURTours Consultant who can help to arrange this for you.

How do I book

Booking with us is simple and stress‑free, wherever you live.

If you’re based outside Kāpiti, just give us a call on (04) 297 1392 or Freephone 0800 470 005, or email us at tours@yourtours.co.nz. We’ll send you a booking form and invoice by email or post – whichever you prefer. You’re welcome to join our tours from anywhere in New Zealand, and our travel team can help arrange domestic flights to and from your nearest airport if needed.

If you’re local to Kāpiti, you’re very welcome to pop in and see us in person at 17a Maclean Street, Paraparaumu Beach. We’ll sit down with you, talk through the options, and take care of everything from there.

Deposit amounts are clearly shown on your booking form. For domestic tours, the deposit is $500. For international tours, deposits are typically between $3,000 and $5,000 and will be confirmed at the time of booking. Your final payment date will be noted on your tour invoice, so you’ll always know exactly what is due and when.

Pre-Registrations

Pre‑registration is a simple way to secure first option on selected upcoming tours while we finalise the brochure details.

With a pre‑registration, you receive first chance to confirm your place. You pay a $250 per person pre‑registration deposit, which is held against the tour. Once the brochure is released, we’ll send you the full itinerary and departure date, and you’ll have seven working days to decide.

If you choose to go ahead, you then pay the remaining tour deposit and your place is confirmed.
If you decide the tour isn’t right for you, we refund your full $250 pre‑registration deposit straight away.
