GENTLE ANNIE & LAKE WAIKAREMOANA
6 Day Fully Hosted Small Group Tour.
Join us on our tour featuring two of our lessor travelled internal routes through extremely interesting and historical areas and not often travelled by independent travellers.
South-East of Rotorua is the Kaingaroa Plain, now covered by the 162,000-hectare Kaingaroa Forest, the largest plantation forest in the Southern Hemisphere. Here the road runs through a seemingly endless avenue of pine trees. In the centre of the region is the Te Urewera National Park, which encompasses Lake Waikaremoana in the southeast and reaches towards the Bay of Plenty.
Our Gannet Safari out to Cape Kidnappers is a highlight, with absolutely no walking required, as we travel in a special 4X4 Mini-Coach out through Cape Kidnappers Station, to within a few metres of these remarkable birds.
Leaving Hawkes Bay behind, we travel the Gentle Annie Route, now a lot gentler on travellers than it used to be. Here we find picturesque high-country sheep stations like Erewhon and Springvale. Erewhon takes its name from Samuel Butler’s influential 1872 novel and is a play on the name “nowhere”. All this before spending our final night enjoying our Farewell Dinner together in the Gumboot Capital of New Zealand, Taihape.
Our journey south towards home takes us inland via the scenic Manawatu Country Road route, with this tour sure to delight those who are looking for something a little bit different to explore.
